A Rainy Day Proposal at Tulip Experience Amsterdam: Capturing Love in Every Weather

We had been planning this tulip proposal for almost two months when a storm appeared in the forecast only a few days before their visit.

Changing the time would not have helped because rain was expected throughout the day. The couple had travelled to the Netherlands during the short tulip season, and moving the proposal to another date was not possible. After reviewing the conditions, they decided to continue with the plan.

Hiding among the tulips

On the day of the proposal, I waited inside a small greenhouse at the back of Tulip Experience Amsterdam. From there, I could remain hidden while watching for the couple to arrive.

When I finally saw them approaching, they were already completely wet. She was wearing a dress, the rain was still falling, and the entire garden looked very different from the sunny tulip photographs most people imagine. But the plan was ready.

They walked towards the selected proposal point. I remained at a distance, appearing to be another visitor taking photographs of the flowers. Then he got down on one knee.

She said yes.

For a few minutes, the cold and rain became unimportant. The surprise had worked; the tulips surrounded them, and the proposal happened exactly where we had planned it.

Creating photographs in difficult weather

Afterwards, the three of us talked about how cold we were. Our clothes were wet, and we were shaking, but they continued with such a wonderful attitude. The weather did not give them the tulip proposal they had originally imagined. Instead, it gave them a completely unique story.

If rain appears in the forecast for your flower proposal, it does not automatically mean that everything must be cancelled. We review the intensity of the rain, wind, safety, available shelter, and whether changing the time or date is genuinely possible.

Sometimes we adapt the plan or we wait. And when it remains safe to continue, we embrace the day exactly as it arrives.

These photographs are proof that tulip season does not need perfect blue skies to create a beautiful proposal.
